Recently we asked our NDCLP members to tell us what issues are important to them. Below is the response from one local member.
My main issue is to remove the Conservatives from power before Britain becomes a soulless, heartless place without any opportunities or quality of life for those who are not born into money.
There is no compassion for people in, or outside of, Britain who are enduring a vulnerable period in life; scapegoated and demoralised rather than cared for and assisted to a position from which they can help themselves and improve their situation.
The Conservatives sold themselves as the strivers party yet they have axed every opportunity for people to better their lives. Abolishing Further Education grants, ordering cuts to local resources such as youth clubs, performing arts venues - lifelines in some deprived areas, such as my home town Harlow, selling off council houses while refusing to cap private rents, and portraying welfare as if it were something to be ashamed of rather than something that can be used to help a person/family on their way to a better future - a place where they might not depend on welfare.
They disrespect our crucial Public Sector workers Teachers, NHS Staff, Social Workers, Emergency Service Workers – constantly changing goal posts and working them into the ground, so that when the time comes to line their own pockets by selling off these assets - nobody cares.
I am a self-employed editor working full-time hours, my partner is a musician/college tutor who lost his college job to funding cuts. We have four children. I have never felt so worried for our children’s future - for everybody’s future. I will do all I am able to make sure the Conservatives are not voted in again. Jeremy Corbyn has my full support.
