Steve Hinchliffe - Labour Candidate - South Molton Town Council By Election - January 11th 2018
My name is Steve Hinchliffe and I am standing for the Labour Party in the South Molton Town Council By-Election, to be held on Thursday 11th January, 2018.
I am a self-employed carpenter by trade and have lived in South Molton for 25 years raising a family with my wife Sue, who is an occupational therapist at NDDH. In my spare time I enjoy running and am an active member of the South Molton Strugglers running club.
My 2 grown up daughters both attended the Community College and I served for 10 years as a Governor of South Molton Community Infants School, the last 6 years as Chairperson. During that time, I oversaw the new buildings at the School which is now one of South Molton’s 2 Primary schools.

I continue to take a keen interest in the development of our schools and while welcoming the new buildings at the Community College, I am deeply concerned at the continued underfunding of all our local schools. We cannot afford to let our children’s future be put in jeopardy and as a local community we need to be putting pressure on Government to ensure full and fair funding for our schools
Our local health services are particularly important to our community and I have been involved with the SOHS campaign since its launch and will always campaign against any further cuts to NHS provision. We need more investment in Health and Social Care and we need to protect the community beds and facilities at the Community Hospital.

As our community grows it is vital that local people have a meaningful voice – we need properly planned and not piecemeal development with adequate provision for genuinely affordable and social housing. We must urge the rapid acceptance of the new Local Plan to stop what has become a developers free for all.
I believe that the people of South Molton need better representation on their council. For too long there has been a very narrow range of interests amongst the elected councillors.
I would represent a fresh voice on the Council and If elected I shall work with the other members of the Town Council to fight for services that benefit and address the needs and aspirations of the many not the few.
